Starting an internet marketing business or any other sort of web based business can be an incredibly rewarding experience. These rewards are both personal and financial. A lot of us dream about being able to quit our day jobs and start to work for ourselves by starting our own businesses. Beginning an internet marketing business lets you do just that; and with careful planning and an investment of time and effort, you can make a lot more money working for yourself than you ever could have at your old day job.

However, you're not going to make enough income from your internet marketing business to ensure your financial security right off the bat. For a while, at least you'll need to stay at your day job as you get your web based business off the ground – it's only when your business is producing enough income to justify taking it on as your only employment that you can finally wave a cheerful goodbye to the boss and begin building your own wealth rather than your employer's.

So how can you ensure the continued growth of your internet marketing business while still working your nine to five and maintaining your sanity? The answer is to take things an hour at a time; or more accurately, an hour a day. This is the amount of time you should set aside to take care of the needs of your fledgling internet business until it begins to take off. Some days you'll have more time, some days less. The key is to set yourself as regular of a schedule as possible and stick with it as closely as you can. It's easy to let ignoring your web based business venture become a habit; so keep your goal of a successful business (and finally quitting your day job) motivate you to put in at least an hour a day on your internet marketing business.

There are a lot of different things to take care of when you're running your own business. You'll need to continue adding quality, relevant content to your website to keep your search engine rankings up and your customers and prospects coming back. There may be an email list to maintain, new products and services to research and marketing efforts of all varieties to investigate, implement and manage. All of these tasks can easily take an hour a day of your time and all are important enough to be worth this time invested in them.

Could you spend more than an hour a day building your business? Absolutely – and you may have days where you need to and have the energy to put in more time. As you develop your business building system, you may want to devote more time per day or per week to your internet marketing business with the goal of eventually making this your sole occupation. However, there is one very good reason to begin with an hour a day; to prevent burning out and giving up. You'll be able to do enough to keep motivated and dedicated to growing your business, but you won't exhaust yourself either. Remember, you still need to get to the office tomorrow morning -at least for now.

As the owner of an internet marketing business, you're largely a one man or woman show. Most of the tasks of making your business run smoothly and ensure continued growth are things which you can do yourself – but there are situations where outsourcing some work makes sense. Every successful internet marketer finds themselves at a point eventually where there are simply not enough hours in the day to take care of each and every aspect of growing their business. You'll know when you've come to this point yourself – while outsourcing can be a great way to ensure that business is taken care of, there are some challenges associated with outsourcing work as well.

One of the biggest challenges involved in outsourcing some of the work of your internet marketing business is that these employees (largely hired on a freelance, per project basis) are generally located somewhere far from where you are. When you have employees working in different cities or even different countries, it can be difficult to work with them; especially when it comes to motivating them to produce the best quality work they can. While there's no single solution to this, there are a number of different things you can do to keep your outsource employees on top of their game and producing results for your business.

The first of these motivational techniques is something everyone can relate to and is quite simple: money. If you want quality work from talented professionals, you're going to have to offer enough in the way of compensation to not only make your projects worth their time to do, but also to keep them motivated to do their best. With many of the work you'll want to outsource, you really do get what you pay for.

Writing work is one of those things. While a lot of other jobs such as graphic design or back end website work can be outsourced to talented employees in the developing world with confidence, writing is something you want to leave to professionals who are native English speakers; one only has to look at any number of internet marketer's websites or marketing materials to understand this. Awkward usage, spelling errors and grammatical slip-ups undermine your credibility as a business. If you're not writing your content yourself, you need to pay adequately to attract professionals who make your business look good.

Positive reinforcement is another valuable tool to keep your outsource employees motivated. We all have egos and there is no one who doesn’t like having their hard work appreciated. It really doesn't take much – a simple email or phone call to let your outsource workers know how much you appreciate what they do for you goes a long way, just as it does in a brick and mortar office where you can physically pat your employees on the back.

Regular communication is perhaps the most important way to keep your outsource workers motivated. All too many internet marketers make the mistake of not staying in contact with their outsource employees. Don't micromanage or breathe down their virtual necks, but regular communication where you ask how things are progressing and offer constructive, useful feedback helps your employees understand your expectations and stay on track towards getting things done on time and with attention to quality.
